WHAT ARe
CNG & RNG?
RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) RNG, also known as biomethane, is a gaseous alternative fuel made from decomposing organic materials—such as waste from landfills and livestock—and is primarily composed of methane. It is odorless and must be compressed in a gasification process for use in heavy equipment and transportation vehicles. The biogas used to produce RNG is conditioned and purified by way of a process called anaerobic digestion. It is a pipeline-quality fuel product that is being adopted within many transport and heavy equipment fleets as they transition to renewable fuels.
Differences between CNG & RNG— Though RNG is chemically identical to conventional CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), RNG does not require hydraulic fracturing for extraction and is not a fossil-derived fuel. It is a completely renewable process that captures methane emissions from waste. RNG has the lowest lifecycle carbon intensity of any clean energy source.
